Bookmaking with Mary Grissim
October 22, 2011

Beautiful books become even more precious in this day of Kindles,
Nooks and disappearing bookstores. Handmade books are an amazing vehicle for putting down your own thoughts, pictures, artwork and memories. Participants in this workshop created and completed
two simple books that could be used as journals or gifts. Two very different styles were taught; a traditional hard cover book with decorative papers and a smaller flap book with Asian stitching.

Creating a flap book with Asian stitching
Really had a wonderful time making the books. As
I walk past my orange book, I say “I made that?,” just like you said others have said. Deborah Wray

Thank YOU, Mary! That was a lot of fun!
And I thought all the books were awesome.

This was the most fun I’ve had since I moved to Nashville!
And I love my books!

Grapevine Basketry with Mary Grissim
November 5, 2011
The egg
basket has its origins in Appalachian history where materials found
around the barn were used to create functional utensils to assist with
chores, like gathering the eggs. Participants in this workshop created a unique one of a
kind egg basket from grapevine frames and Procion dyed reed.
